This is a magical place. I’ve felt it since I was a young boy! Is it because of the powerful presence of the ocean just in front of us? Is it the murmuring of the waters in the steam running nearby? Is it the wind brushing the leaves of these centenary oaks? Whatever the reason, before me, many others were drawn in by the mystery and left here the marks of their religious practices: a roman altar, medieval cross, 16th century chapel and the worship of Nossa Senhora da Boa Viagem.

However, time also leaves its scars and it’s necessary to conserve, restore and improve all the time, not only the Quinta’s buildings, but also its gardens.

Nowadays, my family and I are delighted that you can join us here and we look forward to introducing you to the beauty of our historic home set within its inspirational surroundings. At the same time, your visit makes a significant contribution to our restoration and conservation programs, which are necessary to ensure this estate is preserved for future generations.

This year is particularly exciting due to the recent restoration of all the garden hydraulic system with its springs, canals and fountains and we would express all our gratitude to the Portuguese Association of Historical Gardens and Sites who helped us so much and knew so well how to interpret the spirit of this place.

Please enjoy your visit: in the Eira dos Mouros, Neptune smiles again. Two Chinese guardian lions stand guard over the most Baroque of parties: a triton envelopes Saint António and Laziness languidly swings with Saint Fernando. This is the exaltation of Mother Nature.
